Bright Object Travels Across The Night Sky Over Nanaimo British Columbia (ISS Sighting)

Date: December 28, 2010
Time: 6:30 p.m.

Hi Brian, I'm writing in response to your article at: http://canadaufo.blogspot.com/2010/12/ufo-bursts-into-light-and-still-hangs.html

Today, around 6:30pm, my wife and I saw something somehow similar to your observation.

As we were getting ready to go, I took the time to look at the sky and enjoy the stars before going in the car, when I spotted what seemed to be a satellite. Having watched hundreds of satellite before, I quickly concluded that this was different.

The speed was about 3 to 5 times faster and the brightness what many times stronger than the reflection I've seen from satellites. Actually, the object was brighter than any stars, like a large white star.

The trajectory of the object initially appeared straight, but after around a minute there was a very slight curve in it.

Everything lasted less than 3 minutes. The object's brightness finally faded away within less than ten seconds and enabled me to get a better idea of it’s size and shape. When the object faded away, it looked more like an actual satellite before disappearing than a star, which gave the impression that the object was much smaller. Unfortunately, the object completely disappeared and could not be found after close observation.

We were unable to get any precise shape nor altitude. When I was younger, I had the chance to see many types of aircrafts, since my father was a pilot and an air traffic controller. But this is truly strange. If this was a satellite, the speed was absolutely tremendous and the brightness so great that it would imply some sort of large reflective area. Because of this and the shift in trajectory, I conclude it is not a satellite.

Moreover, the brightness cannot be easily explained if this was an aircraft, since it would have required a great deal of energy for no apparent reason but to be overly visible. In addition, no sounds were heard on this quiet evening.

There was no trace behind, resulting from the object. I'm tempted to believe this was a long range missile that "stopped" in flight (west to east), but how could it not leave a trace?

Hope this helps. Best regards.
